Nellie was released in 2004 as the first “Best Friend” American Girl doll, and has accompanied Samantha on many of her adventures. Nellie is a shy but practical servant girl, with freckles sprinkled across her face and strawberry-blond hair. Nellie is also set in the Edwardian Era, around the year 1905, and represents the working class, while her best friend Samantha represented the upper class. Nellie, an 18-inch doll, is originally dressed in a blue and white dress and a white straw hat with flowers. In addition to this outfit, Nellie also has clothing such as her Holiday Outfit, Spring Party Dress, and Pajamas, all by American Girl. Nellie has her own book, Nellie’s Promise, and is often mentioned in the Samantha book series.
