American Girl Doll Marisol

The American Girl doll Girl of the Year for 2005 was Marisol Luna, a lively, practical dancer originally from the Chicago area. Marisol loves dancing and primarily dances a traditional Mexican dance. Marisol is Latin, and is very proud of her roots. Marisol has long, brown, wavy hair and light brown eyes. She is originally dressed in a purple wrap top, cargo pants, a crocheted hat, and a scarf, all from American Girl. Marisol was the first Girl of the Year to have a Starter Collection, which included her Performance Trunk, Dance Duffle, and her cat. In addition to these items, Marisol also has a Ballet Outfit, Spotlight Outfit, and Tap Outfit, all of which help her perform her best on the stage. Marisol also has a Spotlight Stage, and a Tiara to make her feel like a princess! Marisol is the book telling the tales of Marisol’s adventures both on the stage and off.

American Girl Nellie O'MalleyThe American Girl doll Nellie O’Malley is Samantha Parkington’s best friend. Nellie was released in 2004 as the first “Best Friend” American Girl doll, and has accompanied Samantha on many of her adventures. Nellie is a shy but practical servant girl, with freckles sprinkled across her face and strawberry-blond hair. Nellie is also set in the Edwardian Era, around the year 1905, and represents the working class, while her best friend Samantha represented the upper class. Nellie, an 18-inch doll, is originally dressed in a blue and white dress and a white straw hat with flowers. In addition to this outfit, Nellie also has clothing such as her Holiday Outfit, Spring Party Dress, and Pajamas, all by American Girl. Nellie has her own book, Nellie’s Promise, and is often mentioned in the Samantha book series.

Madame Alexander introduced her first “modern fashion doll” in 1955.  The Cissy doll was made with a mature figure and had on high heels!!  When Cissy was first introduced she was 20 inches tall.  She a hard plastic body with vinyl arms and was jointed at her hips, waist, neck, elbows, knees and shoulders.  Madame Alexander‘s Cissy doll was availabe with several different hair colors:  ash blonde, blonde, red, or brunette.  Cissy‘s eyes are blue and she has painted on eyelashes.  You could buy Madame Alexander‘s Cissy as a basic doll, clothed in underwear and mules, or you could purchase the Cissy doll in many different outfits, including evening wear dresses, bridal gowns, casual outfits, day dresses.  In 1958, Cissy grew a bit and was listed as 21 inches tall.  Cissy was a very popular doll who had many, many outfits available for her so that anyone who had a Cissy doll could have hours of fun.
